Students at Prince Andrew High School are trying to put on a brave face after learning that Grade 10 student David Julien was the victim in Sunday’s fatal crash.
Grade 12 student Allysa Gallop says although it’s been hard, they’re focusing on raising money to help the Julien family pay for the funeral.
She says so far they’ve been overwhelmed with the response.
“We’re trying to get our BBQ going,” said Gallop. “Gateway Meatmarket donated sausages and hot dogs and we’ve got gift cards and more donations this morning.”
She says they raised almost $400 at a penny drive Tuesday morning and a local musician is donating his performer fees from performing in pubs.
Gallop says the entie community has been in shock but at the same time have really responded to their fundraising effort.
She says she’s thankful that the driver and passenger turned themselves in.
“I don’t blame them for being scared and leaving they didn’t know what to do,” says Gallop. “But I’m glad that they took the responsibility of going and turning themselves in.
Gallop says if they want to make a donation it can be dropped off at the school.
