Firefighters battle blazes in forest, campground

The hot, dry weather meant plenty of work for local fire crews over the weekend.
More than seven hectares of forest were burned Sunday afternoon in northern Halifax county.
A natural resources spokesman tells the Herald firefighters from six departments were called in to battle the flames, which threatened several cottages in the West Loon Lake area.
None were actually damaged, and the fire is now under control.
About 20 firefighters also responded to an RV park on Hammonds Plains Road on Monday afternoon.
A fire broke out in a pile of debris near the campground parking lot. It caused minor damage to a few trailers before it was contained.
There’s no word on how the fire started.
