Police seize two tasers in a week

Police aren’t sure if it’s going to be a trend or not, but they’ve seized a couple of tasers in the last week.

Police seized a cellphone taser during a traffic stop Wednesday and then a fully functional taser Friday evening during a drug deal.

“Certainly the cellular telephone taser is unique. It’s not something we’ve seen around here,” says Cst. Brian Palmeter with Halifax Police. “We have had other taser-type devices that we’ve seized, but certainly it’s not something that we commonly see. Two in a week would be unique.”

The cellphone taser was only a taser. It can’t be used as a cellphone.

Palmeter figures they came in from the United States where stun guns are not illegal in most states. In Canada, however, they are considered prohibited weapons.
