Police not getting much help in accidental shooting

Police say they are getting very limited information from the witnesses of a shooting in the North End’s Mulgrave Park.

A 16-year-old girl was shot in the leg just before 6 p.m. Tuesday while sitting in a parked car with other young people.

Cst. Brian Palmeter with Halifax Police says they can confirm it was an accident.

“We believe at this time that the incident was unintentional, or another way of saying it is that it was an accidental shooting,” says Palmeter. “There was no intended target and that it was not a random act and this point there’s no indication that there’s any threat against the general public.”

Police haven’t located the gun.

Palmeter says a 17-year-old woman was arrested at the scene. She was charged with assaulting a police officer, obstruction of justice and breach of a court order.
