Dexter says his government will “get stronger”.

Premier Darrell Dexter says despite a crippling provincial deficit, his government has managed to keep its platform commitments.
Dexter tried to rally the troops yesterday with a speech at the New Democratic party’s annual convention in Antigonish.
The premier admitted to a steep learning curve for his government, but says they’ve met challenges head on.
“We have learned through each one of those,” Dexter said. “We now have a cabinet that has a year of experience under its belt, they understand the mechanism of government, and I think over the next three years we’ll just continue to get stronger.”
He emphasized the importance of getting the books back in balance by 2014 in order to protect social programs.
The province is currently carrying a 222 million dollar deficit.
Dexter told delegates their participation in setting policy is even more important now that the party “carries much greater responsibilities.”
