Year one about learning the ropes, year two will be better: premier

Premier Darrell Dexter is confident he and his government will turn the corner on what he admits has been a challenging first year for the NDP.
Over the weekend, Dexter told delegates at the party’s annual general meeting in Antigonish that his government will only get stronger with experience.
In a historical win last June, Darrell Dexter and his party became Nova Scotia’s first NDP government.
Dexter admits he and his colleagues have navigated a steep learning curve since then.
“I don’t think there’s any doubt about that,” he said. “The responsibilities of power are new to the cabinet. This has been a year in which many of them have, for the first time, been working in a department that they have to lead.”
Dexter says his plans for the next few years include a focus on a new national healthcare strategy for provinces.
“We think it’s time to look more broadly based at things like homecare and how we go about extending the question of Pharmacare,” the premier said.
He says a difficult financial situation was the reality of the past year, and says that limited his government’s ability to deliver programs.
