HRM drivers in for another busy construction season

Get ready for the rush-hour headaches.
The summer construction season has officially arrived, with seven projects beginning in the last two days.
And that’s not all motorists can expect over the next few months.
David Hubley with HRM Construction Services says the road work budget and number of projects is down from last year – but not by much.
He says small one-week surface seal jobs will take place on the Halifax ramps off the McKay Bridge, as well as on St. Margaret’s Bay Road, Hammonds Plains, Mumford, Caldwell Road and Forest Hills.
He says you can expect longer projects as well.
“Major paving projects, we’re doing some work on Main Street in Dartmouth, that work has actually started,” he said. “We’re also doing some work on Bedford Highway, Chain Lake Drive and Bissett Road.”
He says they’ll be working hard to get things moving back to normal.
“Hopefully those will go relatively quickly,” he said. “We will try to take advantage of doing some of that work on the weekend to minimize the disruption to traffic.”
In all, Hubley says construction will be carried out in 120 locations, and he’s hoping the weather cooperates so they can stay on schedule.
