Courthouse security still under assessment: minister

The province’s justice minister says he’s still assessing whether to have metal detectors in Nova Scotia courthouses on a full -time basis.
Ross Landry was reacting to the latest incident at the Dartmouth courthouse where two young men were caught this week with weapons.
Landry feels security is okay.
“I think the security’s working very well,” he said. “Here we have no threat against the court, we have individuals in a common area where the public has access, and we have police officers in the building.”
The head of the Crown Attorneys’ Association says it was only by luck officers were tipped off about the weapons.
Landry acknowledges metal detectors are already in storage there, but he says there is a cost involved to have people staff them.
