Con Air taking off in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Unwanted out-of-town criminals who have taken shelter in Abbotsford, are the latest targets of the city’s police department. The department is getting on board with the Con Air program.
Abbotsford Police Constable Ian MacDonald says there are currently more than 100 people from outside the city who are wanted on warrants in other parts of the country, related to violent or serious offences.
Given the success Con Air has seen in Vancouver and Victoria, he says it was a no-brainer. “In this case, we asked would that general template work for our community, and out of the starting blocks I’d say yes it does.”
Today Abbotsford’s first two Con Air passengers were sent back to Edmonton. MacDonald says there’s a public safety risk with accused offenders walking the streets, so he feels the minimal program costs are worth the money.
