A Dartmouth woman is facing charges of child abuse which include removing her daugher’s feeding tube while the two-year-old was in hospital.
The 42-year-old was arraigned in court Tuesday on charges that include aggravated assault.
The Herald reports the alleged offences took place between March 2009 and April of this year, and include removing the feeding tube and tampering with formula being given to the little girl at the IWK.
The woman was placed in a mental health ward after police questioned her in April, and she tried to commit suicide.
She was arrested Tuesday morning and will be assessed to determine whether she’s fit to stand trial.
The defence has asked for a ban on the identity of the child, which is being opposed by the crown and the Herald.
A hearing is scheduled for Friday.
