What you need to know for Fleet Week

The international Fleet Review is finally here and Saturday is your first chance to visit the many warships at dock here in Halifax.

Starting at 10 o’clock Saturday morning you can board the warships that now line Halifax Harbour. They’re open until four o’clock. If you miss them they’ll also be open for tours from 10 to four on Sunday.

Captain Craig Walkington explains where the ships are.

“We don’t have enough room in the Naval Dockyard to be able to host all of these ships,” he said. “So they’re going to the Halifax Port Authority on the seawall.”

He also says they’ll be all the way between and on the Dartmouth waterfront.

Halifax Base Commander John Newton says there will be security checkpoints so pack light.

“For the most part some of the ships will have interior ladders to go up,” he said.
“I think normal shoes for getting around the downtown, loafers, no spiked heels, would be good advice.”

He says it’s also a good idea to bring identification because some ships may ask for it.
