Avoiding the smoggy days of summer

Just in time for summer there’s a new system for measuring air pollution.
The new tool focuses on the health effects of smog.
Barbara MacKenzie with the New Brunswick Lung Association says the Air Quality Health Index measures pollution and tells you how it will make you feel.
“This new index is a health risk based index,” she said. “It’s not an index of a level of any one air pollutant.”
The index gives information on how much activity is safe when the air is poor.
MacKenzie says it also gives an air quality forecast.
“It’s not just today and tonight but also a forecast for tomorrow,” she said.
“It’s very useful for people in those at risk groups.”
The readings and forecasts can be found on Environment Canada’s website.
