City’s CAO announces surprise retirement

HRM is looking for another chief administrative officer.
In a release sent Wednesday evening, Dan English announced his decision to retire after five years as the city’s top administrator.
English writes that he shares the news with “mixed emotions,” and calls his tenure as CAO among “the most meaningful years” of his career.
He doesn’t offer any reason for his resignation, and couldn’t be reached for comment.
English’s contract is due to expire in November, and Mayor Peter Kelly says he was simply ready to move on.
“He felt he wanted to retire at this time, not retire from the workforce but retire from HRM, and go on to other undertakings,” he said.
Kelly says the city is grateful to English for his work.
“We will wish him the best as he moves forward,” said Kelly. “He’s worked long and hard for us. Again, we owe him a great deal of appreciation.”
Kelly says a national search will be conducted for a new CAO.
