Man shot in north-end Halifax dies

Halifax police have begun a homicide investigation after the victim of a shooting died in hospital.

Police say they were called to Jarvis Lane in Mulgrave Park just before 11 p.m. Thursday.

Cst. Brian Palmeter with Halifax police says officers found a 21-year-old with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to hospital where his condition was listed as critical.

“The victim from the shooting has passed away this morning in hospital and police are now treating this as a homicide,” says Palmeter.

The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of his family.

Palmeter says police have no suspects and are pleading with anyone who may have seen something to come forward.

“We do believe that there are people that know exactly what happened, and we need them to come forward and help with our investigation,” says Palmeter.

He says although police have good relations with residents in the area, police are concerned about recent incidents in the area.

In May, a 16-year-old girl was shot once in the leg, inside a parked car in the same area.
