Construction begins on new memorial in Grand Parade

Construction is underway on a monument to honour Nova Scotia peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Rev. Doctor Cynthia Chenard is the chair of the association that decided to build the 14-foot archway on the Grand Parade.
As the wife of a police officer, she felt it was something that was needed in Nova Scotia.
“I’ve attended our national memorial service which is held in Ottawa every year, and I just got thinking that if anything should happen to my husband I know I’d like to have something here within out own province,” she said. “We didn’t have one so I just thought maybe it’s time we should.”
Work is scheduled to run over a six-week period.
