The guard captain who was stabbed in the abdomen at the Burnside jail Saturday afternoon wasn’t wearing a vest.
Stab-proof vests aren’t required in North 1 Wing, which is one of the most dangerous wings of the jail.
Justice Minister Ross Landry tells Metro News the government may be willing to make them available depending on the findings of a police investigation.
John Roderick Fraser, 21, was arrested after the stabbing and faces charges of aggravated assault and assaulting a peace officer.
In court Monday, the Herald reports he told the judge he wants to “plead guilty and get it over with.”
He’ll return to court Friday.
