Development deferred for Birch Cove-Blue Mountain

The Blue Mountain-Birch Cove Lakes wilderness district will remain free of suburban development for the time being.

Halifax’s regional planning advisory committee voted yesterday to defer the development along with another in the Sandy Lake area near Bedford West.

Environmentalists have voiced concerns over development in the Blue Mountain-Birch Cove wilderness area west of Bayers Lake.

Raymond Plourde of the Ecology Action Centre tells the Herald the deferral is
“the right decision.”

One development in Dartmouth’s Port Wallace area was approved, though city staff recommended holding off on all three.
