After spending hours debating reducing the size of council Mayor Peter Kelly is musing about adding a seat.
Mayor Kelly tells CBC he’d support the addition of a black councillor.
The comments come after the mostly black community of North Preston protested a gated shortcut that skirted a construction site.
Access was given to about 10 white families.
Some of the protesters alleged racism was at the root.
Kelly says race relations are strained in the HRM and says he’ll be meeting with residents of North Preston next week to discuss the issue.
Nova Scotia has legislation in place to ensure a black representative sits on school boards.
