Beating in Clayton Park now considered a murder attempt

Members of the Forensic Identification Unit of Halifax Regional Police are combing through the apartment unit in the building at 200 Willett Street. That’s where a young man was brutally attacked by someone Sunday afternoon. Police say the assault against the 37-year old man is now considered an attempted murder.
Building manager Carrie Anthony says she’s never had to deal with anything like this in the eleven years she’s been overseeing the apartment complex in Clayton Park.
“The gentleman that was injured was a good tenant,” says Anthony. “He’s been there about two years and I’ve never had an issue with him.
“Simple fact is, somebody got in my building and I’m not happy about it.” Anthony says calls it a very secure building and nothing like this has ever happened in the eleven years she’s been managing. “From what I can tell, somebody was crawling up the balcony.”
Tenants are still talking about the incident and one is suggesting the man’s sexuality may have had something to do with the attack. Anothony hopes not. “You don’t want to say it is to do with their sexuality, because it’s unfortunate the way the world is. Some people don’t accept people for who they are.
“I can’t say it’s a hate crime, but it is a possibility. It’s truly sad.”
In the meantime, investigators from the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigation Section are trying to locate a vehicle that was stolen during the attempted murder. They are trying to locate the victim’s 2003 blue Honda Civic (Nova Scotia License plate ECE 393). They say anyone seeing the vehicle is advised to not approach it or anyone who may be inside, but to contact police immediately.
