Mooseheads lose appeal for Frk

The International Ice Hockey Federation ruled against the Halifax Mooseheads’ request to have the rights of first round pick Martin Frk transferred to the team.
Frk, a first round pick in the CHL import draft, has a professional contract with Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic and his team is refusing to release him.
When two international teams dispute where a player should be playing, the IIHF is brought in to settle the matter. Friday the IIHF sided with Frk’s Czech Republic team.
However team officials have vowed to appeal the decision. It’s expected the team’s lawyers will argue Frk, who signed the contract at age 16 is too young to be held to such a long-term contract. Also Frk has stated he wishes to come to the Mooseheads, which could work in the team’s favour.
Frk, is a considered a contender to go first overall in the 2012 NHL draft. Without Frk, the rebuilding Mooseheads would be left with a large void in their goal-scoring depth.
