Train collides with dump truck in Elmsdale

A train collided with a dump truck in Elmsdale around 11:30 Friday morning.
The freight train carrying 101 cars was travelling from Moncton to Halifax when it collided with the dump truck at the train crossing at Highway 214, also known as the Elmsdale Road.
“One male was transported to hospital with serious injuries,” says RCMP Sgt. Brigdit Legere.
An employee at nearby Basin Contracting Limited tells News 95.7 the truck was from Elmsdale Landscaping, which is located next to the rail intersection.
Laura Roberts works at nearby Leno’s convenience store. She says workers from Elmsdale Landscaping are always in the store, however she didn’t know this particular driver.
“We’re hoping he’ll be okay, they airlifted him out,” says Roberts.
Employees at Elmsdale Landscaping declined to comment.
Police closed Highway 214 for three hours Friday afternoon. Legere says they are still investigating the cause of the accident.
