Mayor set to take harbour plunge

The mayor is taking the plunge into the harbour.

A news release from Peter Kelly’s office says the mayor will go for a harbour swim at 11:30 Wednesday morning at Black Rock Beach.

The mayor’s inviting everyone to join him, especially young people, who are headed back to school on Thursday.

Kelly’s calling the swim a “public show of confidence” in Halifax’s recently cleaned up harbour. He’s looking to show the waters are safe to swim now that HRM’s sewage treatment plants are up and running.

The plant in Halifax was brought back on-line in June following a year-and-a-half of repairs after it was flooded due to a mechanical issue.
