Storm causing damage, traffic, power outages

Police are asking everyone to stay home and not travel the streets in the wake of the hurricane, as there are large obstacles to contend with – including downed power lines that may still be live. If travel is absolutely necessary, drivers are asked to exercise extreme caution.
Currently, about 159000 people are without power across Nova Scotia and restorations aren’t expected until Sunday at the soonest. Outages can be tracked online using Nova Scotia Power’s live outage map.
Damage and traffic reports are as follows. This information will be updated as it is received.
– fallen tree blocking northbound lane of Robie St. at St. Alban’s. Drivers will have to use southbound lane to get around.
– police report major hydroplaning on highways in affected areas.
– diesel tanker has flipped over on Prospect Rd. inbound near Goodwood.
– – Downed power line on Cork Street
-power out at Halifax Shopping Centre, will be closed until at least noon.
– Highway 102 now closed between Lacewood and the Highway 103 until further notice
– tree down across Connaught near Halifax Shopping Centre
– tree down across road to Peggy’s Cove, just as you come into Tantallon. Tree is across some power lines and almost completely blocking the road.
– North and Windsor Street are almost completely blocked due to a tree down on power lines.
– MacKay closed to high-sided vehicles, MacDonald closed to pedestrians and bicycles
– ferry service suspended
– Halifax Shopping Centre now closed for the day
– power lines down on Hwy 3 between Hubbards and Chester.
– all HRM recreation centres are closed for the day.
– road conditions worsening, RCMP report hydroplaning severe on 102 near Larry Uteck interchange
– Hwy 207 closed near Lawrencetown Beach due to water cresting over the road
– Highway 3 by Queensland Beach closed due to debris and rocks on the road
– road to Peggy’s Cove lighthouse off 333 closed
– Peggy’s Cove Rd. from 333 to Swiss Air memorial is closed
– Cow Bay Rd. between Osborne Head and the Cow Bay Moose
