Picnicface wants roller skaters

It’s been a long time coming for local comedy troupe Picnicface, but the team known for its improv and YouTube videos are making a movie.
‘Roller Town’ is set in the late 1970s roller disco era and female lead Kayla Lorette says you’re in for a visual treat.
“We had a wardrobe fitting this morning and it’s a lot of short shorts, a lot of leotards, a lot of glitter,” says Lorette.
The film is set in a rollerskating-obsessed community. Picnicface member Scott Vrooman plays the nemesis to a poor, but talented roller skater who can’t get into the prestigious rollerskating conservatory where classical rollerskating is taught.
“Mark Little plays Leo the lead character and quickly steals my girlfriend Julia, played by Kayla, away from me,” says Vrooman. “I’m basically just constantly humilated.”
He says it has taken a while to secure the funding to make the movie. The group made a trailer for Roller Town about two years ago to promote the idea and hopefully make it reality.
And while Vrooman says they don’t have a lot of money, they will be filming for the next month.
The film is also still in need of extras with an ability to rollerskate.
Auditions are being held Thursday 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Saturday 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Olympic Gardens centre on the corner of Hunter and Cunard.
