Seat belt would have saved crash victim: RCMP

RCMP say a weekend fatality in Nova Scotia highlights the importance of buckling up.

A 62-year-old American tourist was killed Saturday afternoon on the road to Peggy’s Cove.

Police say the vehicle she was a passenger in failed to negotiate a curve in the road and crashed into the ditch.

The victim, the only one of four people in the car who didn’t have a seat belt on, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Staff Sgt. Scott Warnica tells CTV it’s a tragedy – and sadly, it’s a growing trend.

“We’re seeing quite a few cases where people would be alive today had they been wearing their seatbelt,” he said. “This is one case where she would be alive.”

The other three passengers had only minor injuries.
