Gas prices take surprise jump

There’s an unpleasant surprise for drivers at the pumps today.

Nova Scotia’s Utility and Review Board has decided to raise regulated gas prices by 1.3 cents a litre.

That makes the new price of regular self-serve $104.3 in metro for the next week.

Diesel prices also went up by a penny to a maximum price of $1.04.2 a litre.

This time last year, gas was selling for just under $1 a litre in metro.

With today’s increase, the price disparity between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick has grown slightly to 6.7 cents a litre.
