One-in-three not recycling correctly: RRFB

The Resource Recovery Fund Board has done a survey on our recycling and composting habits and it seems we’re getting things mixed up, literally.
Some 32 per cent of Nova Scotia households are putting paper in with regular garbage. Another 34 per cent are disposing of organics with regular garbage.
Jeff Myrick with the Resource Recovery Fund Board says he understands we all live busy lives.
“What ends up happening is, you’re in a rush and you have a tendency to just chuck everything in the waste bin instead of actually sorting them into the proper bin,” he said.
He says there’s added confusion because the rules are different across the province.
“In some municipalities for example, box board is allowed and cardboard is allowed
in your green bin,” he said. “In other municipalities they frown upon that.”
Myrick says because the rules are different around the province it’s best to check their website for details.
