Mayor musing purchase of old convention centre

The province still hasn’t actually said it’s moving ahead with the proposed convention centre but the premier has discussed selling the old facility to the city.
Mayor Peter Kelly says nothing’s been signed, but he says HRM has to investigate the possibility.
“This is a taxpayer based economy for us,” he said. “We have to make sure we don’t lose an opportunity that may help us reduce costs or improve service to the taxpayers.”
Premier Darrell Dexter says there’s the possibility of swapping some land for the old convention centre.
The site would be used for municipal offices. Mayor Kelly says the old WTCC building has some benefits.
“This is across from city hall, this is across from Grand Parade, it’s attached to the Metro Centre, it’s a valuable asset in the downtown,” he said. “Before we do anything lets at least look at it and then go forward from there.”
Kelly says councillors will review the convention centre plan on October 19.
