Bridge considering raising tolls during rush hour

Crossing the harbour bridges at rush hour may one day cost more than crossing at a less-busy hour.

Consultants hired by Halifax Harbour Bridges are looking into the possibility of raising tolls from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Spokesperson Alison MacDonald says increasing tolls during peak hours may reduce congestion by discouraging drivers from using the bridges during rush hour.

She said consutants will also look at the possibilty of one-way tolling and lowering tolls during off-hours.

The Herald reports the consultant’s findings are expected in three months and the study’s expected to be made public.
