NORAD aircraft training near Halifax today

Winnipeg – Canadian fighter jets and supporting aircraft from North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) will be training southeast of Halifax today.
CF-18 Hornet fighters from the 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron based at 3 Wing Bagotville, Que., will be flying out of 14 Wing Greenwood, Nova Scotia, for the duration of the exercise which is expected to last between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
A spokesman for NORAD says although the training will take place over water, residents may hear and see the fighters in close proximity with civilian-looking aircraft as the pilots practice intercept and identification procedures.
Lt. David Lavallee says the exercise is being carried out by NORAD to practice its rapid response capability.
The training is part of a larger on-going exercise being conducted in the region ending Oct. 22nd. It is expected only today’s activities will be visible to the public.
NORAD is a U.S. and Canadian organization charged with controlling North American air space.
