Two-time drunk driver gets discharge

A woman charged with driving drunk two times in one day has been given a conditional discharge.
51-year-old Diedra Marie Fougere was arrested twice on the same day, last January — once in the morning and then again in the early evening. Fougere also has two previous convictions for impaired driving.
Despite all that, The Chronicle Herald reports that judge Barbara Beach gave Fougere a discharge for curative treatment. That means she will continue to take counselling programs. She is also banned from driving for three years.
Fougere is an alcoholic with anxiety and self-esteem issues. The judge said she was convinced Fourgere had been sober for several years before relapsing on the day she was arrested.
Two reports presented to the court indicated that Fougere has abstained from alcohol since being arrested.
