Secret video recordings at Dal’s Studley Campus

Police are now investigating after someone secretly videotaped at least 30 women and posted footage to the internet.
Cst. Brian Palmeter with Halifax police says they received a complaint from a woman who’d been filmed without her knowledge and the video was on the internet.
“Further investigation revealed that there were several similar type videos that had been posted to this website,” says Palmeter. “All appearing to take place around Dalhousie University.”
He says at least two of the videos were up-the-skirt shots as the students walked around campus.
Palmeter says all the videos, which were posted to YouTube, were taken in public areas and the camera appears to have been hidden in a backpack.
He says although Police don’t have any suspects yet, they have a number of ways they can attempt to find the filmmaker.
The news has left Dalhousie students like Robyn unsettled.
“A little bit, I’m not going to lie, I went online and tried to find it because I was wondering what was on it,” says 4th-year student Robyn.
She says she received an e-mailed security bulletin from Dalhousie last night.
“I was totally expecting it to be the sleepwatcher, but it wasn’t,” she says.
Students on the campus are already on edge after several incidents involving the Sleepwatcher, who has snuck into several South End residences and watched women sleep. In a few cases he’s also touched the victims.
The university is asking anyone who suspects they are being secretly recorded to contact them at 494-6400.
