SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The regional ferry system is top-of-mind as the Atlantic mayors kick off a three-day meeting in Saint John on Tuesday.
Mayor Ivan Court says funding for the Princess of Acadia ferry service has not been renewed, and it faces a January 31st deadline before the money runs out.
He says Saint John and the rest of Atlantic Canada should be treated like British Columbia, which got two federally-funded ferries for the winter Olympics.
“In our geography, the sea plays a major role in travel, communication, moving projects to market and so on and therefore it should be properly funded.”
Stimulus funding and energy are on the agenda for the final two days of the gathering.
