Second brother convicted in cross burning case

21 year-old Nathan Rehberg pleaded not guilty to inciting hatred and criminal harassment after a 6-foot tall cross was found burning on the lawn of the home owned by an interracial couple this past February.

Provincial Supreme Court Justice John Murphy, however, did not agree and opted to convict Rehberg on both counts in a Kentville court Tuesday.

The court heard on February 21, 2010, just after midnight a 2.5 metre-high cross was burning outside the home owned by Shayne Howe and his wife Michelle Lyon.  Howe testified there was a noose around the cross.

Last week, Rehberg’s brother Justin was convicted of inciting hatred in the same case.

Sentencing has been put over.
