HRP officer facing extortion charge resigns

A Halifax Regional Police officer facing a number of criminal charges has reportedly resigned from the force.
Jeffrey Buchanan, 30, was accused of trying to extort more than $5000 from a drug dealer last December. He’s also charged with breach of public trust.
The Herald reports Buchanan, who was on unpaid suspension, quit the force Monday and will plead guilty to at least one charge today.
Buchanan is also charged with marijuana possession, assaulting a woman in Cape Breton in August and was also fined for using a cellphone while driving.
He was on the force for four and a half years.
