Panghali trial continues

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – Audio tape of police officers telling Mukhtiar Panghali that his pregnant wife is dead has been played at his second degree murder trial this afternoon.
In it, the man sobs when officers break the news, his mother can be heard wailing in the background. Panghali’s grief re-doubles when he’s told the baby’s gone. But in time he calms down and the conversation turns to informing family members of their loss, getting in touch with the coroner to claim his wife’s body and making funeral arraingements.
Meanwhile, the Crown was trying to poke another hole in Mucktiar Panghali’s alibi.
The subject is video surveillance evidence taken from a Chevron station near the Panghalis’ Cloverdale home. Crown says it shows Mucktiar Panghali at a time when he told investigators he was actually at home early in the morning of October 19th, 2006, and only hours after Panghali claims he last saw his wife Manjit.
The Crown already introduced phone records in court, claiming they show Mucktiar lied about the last time he saw his four-month pregnant wife, who disappeared after leaving her home to attend a prenatal yoga class on October 18th, 2006. Her burnt remains were found in Delta days later.
