Mobile alcohol-testing units to use Alexa Middelaer’s image

SURREY (NEWS1130) – The Middelaer family wants to see ‘Alexa’s Bus’ on the road by spring. It’s a mobile blood-alcohol testing unit to be named after the four-year-old who lost her life because of a drinking driver.
It’ll be purple, Alexa’s favourite colour, and will bear her image. Her mother Laurel Middelaer says she’s hoping the first one is on the road by spring. “Well, I know Surrey mayor Dianne Watts has done a lot of work towards generating funds for the bus, so they’ll be located certainly in the Lower Mainland area.”
The Middelaer family has been working with the RCMP and the BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation to put five buses on the road.
Alexa was struck and killed by impaired driver Carol Berner in north Delta in 2008. Berner has filed an appeal and is out on bail.
