Plan lists five years of provincial road work

The Dexter government is taking a longer-term approach to road-building in the province and putting its priorities out in front for the public to see and criticize.
“It’s not perfect, but it’s a plan,” says Bill Estabrooks, Minister of Transportation and Infrstraucture Renewal. “It’s public. It holds us accountable. I guess it holds me accountable, and that’s part of being a politician in this province.”
The transportation department has chosen its priorities, looking well beyond its existing mandate, and it’s putting timelines and dollar signs on the road work that’s on the schedule for the next five years.
“The most important part of the plan,” he says, “is each year I have to report back, report-card style, like the teacher I once was, to say how did we do during the last year? What didn’t we get done, and why didn’t we do certain things?”
The plan is a 21 page colour document available on the government web site. It outlines work ahead on the 100-series highways, secondary highways, trunks and routes, provincial local roads and municipal roads.
