Report card on Nova Scotia students is in

The latest report card is out on how Nova Scotia students are doing in math, science and reading.  The 2009 International Student Assessment looks at the academic achievements of 15 year-olds from 65 countries.

Students from Nova Scotia performed at the national average in science, but below average in reading and math.   The best showing was a 9th place finish in reading.

The study found girls significantly outperformed boys in the reading categories, but boys do better than girls in mathematics.

Education Minister Marilyn More says while the results contain a lot of good news, we still need to do better in Nova Scotia’s public education system.

The study did find Nova Scotia’s International Baccalaureate students outperformed the world in 21 of 27 subject areas.
