VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The defense says the Crown’s case only works if you already think he’s guilty.
Closing arguments are being heard at the second degree murder trial of Mukhtiar Panghali for the death of his wife in 2006. The defense points out Canadian justice begins with the presumption of innocence, saying if you look at the facts with justice in mind, the circumstantial case has little to say about who did what to Manjit Panghali and her unborn baby.
It argues the presumption of guilt ties the facts together in the case against her husband. The defense also argues the case for second degree murder is not viable if the judge does find Mukhtiar Panghali guilty, saying manslaughter would be the only option.
The burned remains of Manjit Panghali’s body were found on a Delta beach.
