Jamie Bacon sentenced

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Convicted gangster Jamie Bacon has been sentenced to seven years in prison on several weapons charges.

Judge Jean Lytwyn says the sentence would have been longer if it weren’t for Bacon’s poor treatment while he was in Surrey’s pre-trial centre.

Superintendent Tom McCluskie with the Gang Task Force says, “I’m certainly happy with certain aspects of her sentence today. Certainly, she addressed the rising gang violence that we’re seeing in the streets. She had obviously addressed the concerns of the citizens of British Columbia in terms of gang violence. I think that’s really good.”

After credit for time served, Bacon will spend another three years and eight months in jail. The Crown was asking for 10 – 12 years.

Back in 2007, four loaded handguns and nine pistol magazines were found in a secret compartment in Bacon’s vehicle. Just before his arrest, Bacon was shot while getting out of a Corvette at his home in Surrey. He wasn’t seriously hurt because he was wearing body armour at the time.

Bacon still faces a charge of conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the Surrey Six killings.
