Thousands still without power in the Maritimes

Thousands of Maritimers were still with power Tuesday morning, the day after the region was pounded by its fourth storm in as many weeks.
Utility websites showed that by 7:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, about 9,000 homes and businesses in New Brunswick were without power.
In Nova Scotia, outages, mainly in the Annapolis Valley and the north, had dropped from 20,000 Monday to just under 1,900.
In Prince Edward Island, Maritime Electric said about 1,500 customers were still without power Monday evening. The storm claimed at least one life. A 25-year-old Island man was killed yesterday when his minivan collided with a pickup truck
on a slippery road.
Western PEI received more than 30 centimetres of snow, while up to 40 centimetres fell as blizzard conditions walloped northern New Brunswick.
But with temperatures hovering near freezing much of the snow in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI later turned to rain, making roads treacherous and slushy.
Still, the intensity of the storm didn’t come close to last week’s vicious nor’easter which caused widespread flooding and storm-surge washouts.
