How to stick to your resolution to get in shape

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – With the new year comes the promise of change; and once again, the number one resolution is to get in shape.

As many flock to the gyms this month, too many of us have put the running shoes in the closet by February. Fitness Town‘s James Newman says the number one reason we have trouble sticking with a work-out regime is, “Knowledge. They get started, then get a small injury because they’ve overdone it, and don’t know how to keep with it and give themselves the proper guidance.”

He suggests, “Start off slow .. Don’t go to the gym and work out for an hour or hour and a half. [Try] 20-30 minutes four to five days a week to start. And providing a good variety is really important.”

Newman recommends you talk to a fitness expert to make a plan that’s right for you and one that you enjoy. He adds there’s no easy fix to getting in shape. It’s a lifestyle change that takes a lot of work.
