Mayor Peter Kelly is putting the cork on a plan to have champagne flowing at the opening gala to kick off the winter games next month.
A city hall tender document indicates the plan was to have trapeze artists pouring bubbly for guests at the reception while suspended in mid-air.
But Kelly tells the Herald that will not happen. He says alcohol will be available from a limited bar service but he’ll notify staff to nix the trapeze artists – and the champagne.
The invitation-only event will be held at the VIA Rail station on Feb. 23.
