Cost of transitional care beds likely going up

Capital Health is changing the way it calculates the fee for transitional care beds.

Nearly 130 people are currently in transitional care units, waiting for a space in a long-term care facility.

The Herald reports the health authority has changed its formula for calculating the daily accommodation rate and that means most people will pay more.

The new formula is now the same used by other provincial health districts. It’s based on 85 per cent of net annual income rather than 30 per cent.

The new formula doesn’t apply to anyone who was already in a transitional care unit or hospital bed waiting for long-term care.
