Province says Convention Centre deal will move forward

The signing deadline for the proposed downtown Convention Center is coming up.  A plan needs to be agreed on by next Friday, January 14. The federal government still hasn’t confirmed whether it will pitch in $47 million needed for the project. But, the province’s Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, Bill Estabrooks, is confident that the deal will be done.

“The first meeting I had when we got into the New Year of course was how things are going with the Convention Centre,” he says. “I’ve got lots of confidence in the process. We’re proceeding in a timely fashion and the deal’s going to get done.”

Estabrooks says he hasn’t had a chance to speak directly with Central Nova MP Peter MacKay but he has been in contact with other federal staff working on the deal. Estabrooks expects a formal announcement to be made on January 15th.
