Council to debate reducing parking ban hours

The much-debated winter parking ban will be debated a little more this week.

Regional council will consider a motion to shorten the overnight ban by four hours.

Coun. Jennifer Watts (Connaught-Quinpool) wants the parking ban limited to just three hours a night, between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.

She tells CBC that will help businesses who want customers to stay longer at night and people who arrive at work before 7 a.m.

In October, Watts proposed modifying the ban to follow the Montreal model, where drivers move their cars from one side of the street to the other but that was rejected.

Council will debate the new proposal tomorrow.
