A new report suggests thousands of Nova Scotia university students could face big tuition hikes next year if the province doesn’t renew its bursary program.
Currently, every full time student in the province gets a bursary from a trust set up several years ago – which will run out of money this year.
The report, presented to the Dalhousie University senate on Monday, says undergraduates could pay up to 21 per cent more in tuition, if the bursary is allowed to expire.
Education Minister Marilyn More tells the CBC the bursary will be renewed in some form but the final word won’t come until the spring budget.
