It looks like more parking and traffic tickets are coming to HRM, thanks to the introduction of electronic tickets.
The city and province are each paying $350,000 for RCMP and regional police officers to have the electronic terminals.
Metro Halifax reports a city staff report suggests the devices will increase efficiency and eliminate human error due to poor handwriting.
Councillor Jerry Blumenthal tells Metro he’s worried officers will hand out more tickets to offset the cost.
But the city’s finance director says that while the devices will mean more tickets handed out, it will be because of improved efficiency – not a need to recover the expense.
Cathie O’Toole says electronic ticketing could save the city more than a million dollars a year.
