Billard’s friends plead his innocence

Friends of Archie Billard say he’s an innocent man.

Billard, who served four-and-a-half years in prison for causing the 2004 crash that killed Theresa McEvoy, was back in court yesterday, facing charges of driving while disqualified, along with several weapons offences.

But James Pictou tells CTV Billard got a ride downtown Saturday morning to help his girlfriend and wasn’t actually driving when he was arrested.

“He couldn’t get out of the parking lot,” he said “He just warmed up the car to get in, right.”

Pictou also says Billard doesn’t own any of the weapons allegedly found in the vehicle.

A bail hearing has been delayed until February 2.
